The Acanfora family has been working in the hospitality sector since 1967. During the 1960s Giuseppe Acanfora, a young bread and organic oil merchant from Scafati, met Sofia Barlotti, his future wife, who instead had been born and raised in Paestum. He fell head over heels in love with both Sofia her extraordinary hometown. They both immediately realized the potential that Paestum had: its wide golden beaches along the seaside, the Archeological Park, the majestic Temples and the enogastronomic traditions of this territory simply could not be unnoticed nor underappreciated.

And so the young man, at the perplexity of all who knew him well as a salesman, began to build the Hotel Cerere. Initially he worked with the professional assistance of a partner who had years of experience with events and in the hospitality sector. He then understood that to achieve his vision of a hotel in Paestum he would need to take over the management of the structure himself. In just a few years, thanks to his passionate dedication, the Hotel Cerere became known as a place of great quality and began to attract guests and tourists from all over Italy.

In his heart, however, Giuseppe still held the dream of hosting the most celebrated public figures in Paestum. Therefore, in the 1990s he designed, planned and constructed the Mec Paestum Hotel.

World famous architects, the best, most precious marble and a strategic position were the foundations for realizing what still today remains the only five-star hotel in the entire Cilento territory.

oday more than ever the Mec Paestum represents excellence in Campania hospitality, and is managed by Giuseppe Acanfora’s four children: Luisa, Marietta, Luigi and Pasquale. They carry the torch of their father’s legacy having learned the trade early in life, and they work every day to guarantee an unforgettable experience to each and every guest at the hotel.
